REMBAU HISTORY

TOPONYMY
Rembau was originally named Prabu, which is a Sanskrit-Javanese term that means "Daulat", "Yang Dipertuan", and "Anak Raja", in the 13th century. Therefore, the name was later changed after the discovery of a large merbau tree during the opening of the settlement in Kampung Ghombiro in 1520 to Kampung Merbau Tua.

The tree is believed to be so big and tall that it can shade several villages up to Sungai Ujong. Residents in the Rembau district also said that the process of felling the tree took almost a month.
OPENING OF REMBAU DISTRICT
The "Jakun" people, commonly referred to as the Biduanda people, are the original residents of Rembau. Human historians estimate that they arrived in the Malay World between 2,500 and 1,500 years before they were still known as Proto Malays. However, with no clear evidence, it cannot be stated exactly when the date Rembau was opened, only when the Minangkabau people came to Rembau, this area was opened and the natives of Rembau at that time were only led by their tribal leader who was called "Batin" because at that time there was no legal nomination system.

The election of Undang Rembau is in turn for these two heirs. Dato' Undang Rembau is currently appointed in 1998 from Waris Jakun. Dato' Muhammad Sharif Othman who was born in 1941.
